This weekend I:

Bought some new boots. Because when the weather turns nice, the first thing I think is, "I sure do need a new pair of boots!"

Then I saw this guy on the street. That's Kevin from the first season of Project Runway. At first I thought it was a guy I knew from college.

Then Michelle and I went to Il Laboratorio de Gelato for funky flavors of gelato and sorbet. Michelle had Red Grape sorbet. I had basil gelato. It tasted like pesto. I like anything that tastes pestolicious. The best part? This place is only about a block away from my apartment.

Finally, I finished up the very last of Glee. Below it is resting from the steam blocking. I think it's a lovely sweater and I think I will actually get some wear out of it.

More details and photos next time.

p.s. - thanks for the blogiversary messages!

blogiversary

Had I realized earlier that today was one year with Lekkercraft, you would be seeing balloons, fireworks, cupcakes and tiaras here instead of just words. There would be goodie bags. If you guessed the right number of jelly beans in the big jar you'd get a prize. We'd play PinTheTailOnTheDonkey. We'd go swimming before waiting the proper 45 minutes to digest all that BBQ. It would be grand...

Alas, I am at work and not really able to put together a proper post, nor will I tonight as I will be heading to Williamsburg to see a friend play at Laila. I did just purchase a new digicam, so decent photos will hopefully be making a return very soon!

Glee needs: 1 sleeve bound off. Ends woven in. Slight blocking. Hook and eye attachment. So close, oh so very close.

Here's hoping bigger and brighter things for the next year. Many thanks to everyone who has visited, subscribed, commented and emailed!!!

thats a lot of stockinette

This weekend I finally made it to the Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting exhibit at the Museum of Art and Design. I love when the lines between “craft” or “applied arts” become blurred with those of so-called “fine art,” challenging the assumptions of what many people believe to be a lower-form of creative expression. Being an avid knitter who’s constantly scouring the internet, I see those lines crossed all the time, but I suppose that the widespread assumptions may still be somewhat antiquated and stigmatized.

A few of the pieces were what my friend Celene calls “OCD art.” Meaning that the handmade detail work is obviously detailed and repetitive (and executed perfectly!). One piece, which was three large rolls of coated fabric, had been cut into intricate lace patters BY HAND WITH AN EXACTO KNIFE. Good lord – but it sure was pretty.

On a personal knitting note, I am 98% finished with Glee. Hopefully to have a FO by the end of next weekend (or earlier depending on knitting time this week, which doesn’t look very promising). I’m happy to say, I’ve finished the body and tried it on and it fits great! Just needs to have the button bands finished, and the ribbing on the sleeves picked up and ribbed. I’m nearing the end of the yarn, so I’m crossing fingers for it to last for these last bits of finishing. Worst case scenario will be to do the sleeve ribbings in a contrasting color – hopefully I have something in my stash that will work.

I read about a really cool project over on 52 Projects today. Somone over at Flickr has started a group which is trying to get 7,777 members to take and upload 7 photos on 07/07/07. They are currently trying to work out some publishing possibilities, and hope to publish a book of the resulting photographs, with all the proceeds going to UNICEF. So far, they are just at about 3,000 members, so there's lots of room left for people to join in. I've already joined, and you should too!
